Training seminar with the assistance of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine
25-06-2021On June 22 and 23 a training seminar for investigators "Protection of journalists and freedom of speech in Ukraine" was held within the joint project "The EU and the Council of Europe are working together to support media freedom in Ukraine" on the basis of the National Academy of Internal Affairs in cooperation with the Office of the Council of Europe in Ukraine and the Main Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
Rector of the Academy, Police General of the Second Rank Volodymyr Cherniei, Deputy Chief of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine, Head of the Department of Work Organization and Methodological Support, Police Colonel Ruslan Dudarets, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine Steen Nørlov and Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Remy Duflo addressed the participants of the event with welcoming words.
The speakers of the event were: experts of the Council of Europe, scientific and pedagogical staff of the National Academy of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, media lawyers and journalists. The participants of the seminar discussed international standards of criminal law protection for journalists, problems of qualification of criminal offenses committed against journalists, peculiarities of legislative regulation for journalists' work during their professional duties, the effectiveness of the investigation of crimes committed against journalists, etc.
The joint project "The European Union and the Council of Europe work together to support media freedom in Ukraine" helped to create a special training course on the protection of journalists in cooperation with three professional educational institutions, including the National Academy of Internal Affairs.
