In pursuance of the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine on 26.06.2020 № 96/22 "On preliminary selection of candidates for participation in international peacekeeping and security operations" and the order of the NAIA on 02.07.2020 № 554 "On preliminary selection of candidates for participation in international peacekeeping and security operations” a preliminary selection of NPU (National Police of Ukraine) employees and NGU (National Guard of Ukraine) servicemen for participation in international peace and security operations was recently conducted on the basis of SEI № 1 of NAIA (Vita-Poshtova village).

More than 300 candidates, including more than 40 women, expressed a desire to take part in the selection. The selection took place in three races, weekly. Testing in each discipline involved several stages. In a foreign language, it was necessary to review the text, write a report and pass an interview. At the same time, they checked the level of computer literacy. To test the driving skills of the vehicle, participants performed exercises on the site with special markings and a road exercise, during which the candidates had to demonstrate their ability to drive safely on a predetermined route. Candidates also took tests on knowledge of the tactical and technical characteristics of firearms, legal grounds and safety measures when handling weapons, performed incomplete disassembly and assembly of the Fort-12 pistol and shooting exercises.

It should be noted that the female candidates showed generally higher results and professional approach to testing, compared to men, which is evidence of effective integration of gender policy in peacekeeping activities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and successful ensuring the participation of policewomen in international peacekeeping and security operations.

Candidates who did not pass the tests in certain disciplines were given additional classes, during which they had the opportunity to analyze their mistakes and practice more.

In order to ensure an objective and impartial assessment during the selection, subject commissions of Academy specialists were established. Candidates for peacekeeping highly appreciated the quality of preparation and organization of the selection, which showed positive feedback in anonymous questionnaires, which they filled out after the completion of all activities.

As a result of the pre-selection of candidates for international peacekeeping and security operations, 103 NPU staff and NMU servicemen, including 23 women, successfully passed the initial tests and recommended for the second stage – the final international selection by an expert commission of the UN Secretariat.
