Participation of a NAIA specialist in an international UN project

19-03-2021

Since 2019, the UN structures, one of the founders and members of which is Ukraine, have organized large-scale work to update and unify the standards of international peacekeeping. The ultimate goal of this project is to update and develop appropriate standardized training and educational courses for peacekeepers and police officers, which should cover all areas of international peacekeeping, as well as the further implementation of these courses in the activities of contributing countries.

At the initial stage, during 2019-2020, representatives of more than 32 UN member states and international organizations were involved in this work. Specialists performed a significant amount of work on the preparation of the necessary methodological materials in various areas of peacekeeping. The next stage involves the expert evaluation of the developed materials and the development of a standardized concept for training and certification of the police units for participation in international UN peacekeeping operations.

Among the experts from Ukraine involved in this work was a representative of the National Academy of Internal Affairs: Professor of Forensics and Forensic Medicine, Lt. Col. Polina Antoniuk, who participated in the international peacekeeping operation in the Republic of Cyprus as part of the Ukrainian contingent.

In particular, on March 16-18, 2021, Polina Antoniuk took part in a working meeting for international experts (online). The participants of the meeting were acquainted with the concept and methodology of the planned work. The involved experts were divided into seven working groups, specialized in the areas of peacekeeping activities and personal experience. Each working group was given tasks and deadlines, after which the results of their work will be transformed into appropriate preparatory and certification courses.
