Instructors of Department of Tactical, Special, Physical and Firearm Training (Prykarpatsky faculty, Ivano-Frankivsk) Vasyl Verbovyi and Andrii Melnyk have successfully completed the training course for command staff on the base of Lviv State University of Internal Affairs and received «GOLD COMMANDER» and «SILVER COMMANDER». Session included two stages (16-27.04 and 14-23.05). This training is organized within the framework of project «Support of police reform in Ukraine» aimed at presentation of of Scandinavian model of public order and security maintenance to NPU units and departments involved in mass events handling operations. Swedish police officers shared their experience of best tactics used during related to management of events with mass gatherings and establishment of proper communication.

Police units command staff was trained in compliance with European standards (program includes three levels – strategic/ "gold", оperational/"silver" and tactical/"bronze").

Еfficiency of the presented model is increased with focus on use of specialized protected vehicles in the course of public order operations allowing to decrease the level of aggression – transport is used as a shield that simultaneously prevents any attempts to approach the police force and reduces provocations. This strategy allows to decrease the “temperature” and tensions during demonstrations, mass events, sport competitions etc. The last stage of training included practical session at “Vereshchytsia” training center and discussion of lessons learnt.
