Countermeasures to life and security threats. Effective investigation of crimes against freedom of expression
19-10-2017On October 19th an international conference was held aimed to discuss the current issues of media representatives security.
Recent events has clearly shown that state must take all possible efforts to meet one of its commitments – protects journalists’ life and security and ensure effective investigation of relevant crimes as prescribed by The European Convention on Human Rights and supported by the ECHR practice.
This event was organized jointly by the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada Committee on Information Policy and Freedom of Speech, Ministry of Justice of Ukraine and NGO «Іnstitute of Mass Media».
Key presentations and reports on police investigations efficiency and current legislation analysis were provided by experts and representatives of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine, ECHR, law enforcement agencies, media, lawyers and civil activists.
National Academy of Internal Affairs was presented by Deputy Rector Serhii Cherniavskyi, Director of Institute №3 Dmytro Andreiev and Research Fellow (Research Activity Unit) Ivanna Tkachuk.
