«Police chaplaincy in the US: use of American experience by the National Police of Ukraine»
20-04-2017On April 19 National Academy of Internal Affairs and Institute of Penal Service organized a round table with aim to discuss perspectives of police chaplaincy institute establishment in Ukraine.
The event was opened by police chaplains of Tulsa Police Department (Oklahoma, US) Danny Lynchard and David Dunson. Participants represented the All-Ukrainian Interconfessional Religious Christian Military Brotherhood, Chaplains Council of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, NGOs, teaching and scientific staff of National Academy of Internal Affairs and Institute of Penal Service.
Foreign guests provided detailed information about chaplains’ key tasks and functions in American law enforcement structures and peculiarities of cooperation with community and state officials.
Due attention was paid to chaplain’s support provided to citizens in extreme situations (death, fatal diseases, mass riot emergencies, power abuse, criminal/police officer casualties etc).
Danny Lynchard was very convincing while familiarizing the participants with his personal experience and explained the importance of chaplain’s contribution to any situation involving interaction of citizents and law enforcement stressing on efficiency of specific behavior models.
A detailed explanation was provided concerning staff burnout prevention strategies and data confidentiality issues.
