Bilateral meeting Ukraine-EU of experts in firearms trafficking
16-03-2017On March 16th National Academy of Internal Affairs hosted round table involving foreign experts.
The event was aimed to facilitate the discussion of firearms trafficking issues between Ukrainian and foreign officials and law enforcement staff.
Rector of NAIA Volodymyr Cherniei welcomed the participants and stressed that firearms trafficking issues are of outmost importance not only in Ukraine struggling to tackle the dissemination of illegal and unregistered weapons but in the EU as well: “If illegal firearms are easily channeled within the territory of one country, any terrorist group in Europe may get access to it. We all are responsible for the consequences and obliged to interfere”.
Apart from NAIA administrative and teaching staff representatives of the European Commission (Fabio Marini), EUROPOL (Roberto Codesal), ЕМРАСТ (José Romero Morgaz and José Manuel Sanchez-Pardo Lopez), law enforcement agencies of Czech Republic, Greece, Lithuania, Romania, Sweden, Poland, Germany, EU Delegation to Ukraine, Embassy of Kingdom of Spain to Ukraine, National Police of Ukraine, Security Service of Ukraine, MIA of Ukraine, MFA of Ukraine, State Fiscal Service and Ministry of Justice of Ukraine took part in the discussion.
Fabio Marini expressed his gratitude for the invitation and Academy’s contribution to the event organization. He informed the participants of the latest amendments to EU legislation on firearms and stressed on importance of tightening the cooperation between EU and states involved in armed conflicts.
Experts presented multimedia presentations and actively shared their experience on the topic.
